"Java Virtual Machine" by Meyer & Downing (O'Reilly; ISBN 1-56592-194-1) is the second book I know of on this topic. It is not an area of personal interest so I'll stick to the facts and not my personal opinion. The book is primarily a reference book with some descriptive material thrown in. If you want to compare this book to Sun's JVM book, you can read the "About This Book" section of this book to decide which is right for you.
