"Exploring Java" by Niemeyer & Peck (O'Reilly, ISBN 1-56592-184-4) is yet another intro to Java book. Unlike most beginning Java books, this one covers all the key topics important to beginning and moderate level Java programmers. It is a typical O'Reilly style book, which means that there are lots of short code segments and concise, accurate descriptions.
