"Creating Web Applets with Java" (Sams.Net; ISBN 1-575210-70-3) is another book in the vein of "Hooked on Java". It covers less on existing applets and has more meat. Also, it should not be confused with the book from IDG called "Creating Cool Web Applets with Java". Please note that though I did co-author an appendix in this book, but do not get royalties from it.
