"AWT Programming for Java" by O'Neal and Stewart (M&T Books; ISBN 1-55851-494-5) covers the basics of AWT 1.0 Programming though in an appendix it also covers 1.1. Be careful with the 1.1 information though because it is from an early version of 1.1 and not the final release. The book doesn't go into as much detail as you might expect because a large font is used and there is much white space. It does contain some full examples of AWT programmings.

Overall, this book seems to be average to me. Though this book didn't really excite me, I do like it much better than its closest competitor Graphic Java.
