The Real-Time Specification for Java

Review by Billy Barron, Tek-Tools

"The Real-Time Specification for Java" by Bollela, et al (Addison-Wesley; ISBN 0-201-70323-8) is the official specification document for Real-Time Java. This is a semi-dry book on the topic of Real-Time Java.

Unlike many specification documents, this one covers the rationale behind their major decisions. The book starts of by giving you an understanding of the main characteristics of Real-Time Java. However, the book afterwards gets to the nitty-gritty and is pretty oriented around the API. The writing is easy to understand.

If you are looking for a book that will explain Real-Time programming to you, you are in the wrong place. If you already know Real-Time programming, then this book will give you the information you need to apply it to Java. I will point out that I think there is a market for a good Intro to Real-Time Programming with Java book.
