"Quality Web Systems: Performance, Security and Usability" (Addison-Wesley; ISBN 0-201-71936-3) by Dustin, Rashka, and McDiarmid is a nice change of pace. It seems like all Addison-Wesley has been cranking out of late are XP and CMM/SEI books.
I'm probably too experienced with the web (8 years) to be considered in the audience of this book. You'll noticed that all the tags in this page existed in the original version of HTML. :-)
This book provides a nice comforatble introduction on how to correctly design web sites. Instead of focusing on the details, it talks about all the higher level issues of architecture and design that need to be handled correctly. It does a good job in most places though I feel that their path checking character sequence missing some possible security holes.
One interesting appendix is that the authors did an evaluation of the features of all the major web testing tools and published the results in the book. I'm bringing this to work tomorrow to show my project manager.
I recommend this book to any web designer/developer who wants to build high quality professional web sites.
