Attendance at the general meeting was agreed to be approximately
75 for the evening.

Balance: $7,503.77 (end of November, 2002), $7,205.02 (after payment for honorary plaques and gifts).
- Possible ways of increasing revenue were discussed. Pete's motion to put on hold purchase of honorary plaques till economy turns over was tabled. Gil proposed to replace plaques with gift certificates for frequent speakers. Irina did not agree on the basis of cash value associated with gift certificates. Barbara's suggestion was to use a cheaper paper-based version as equivalent of traditional glass plaques. Pete stressed that an opportunity to speak for the JavaMUG is a reward in itself. David's motion to move discussion to the listserve carried.

- The December presentation was evaluated as good and well balanced.

New Business:

- Barbara stressed that the Board needs a more rigid procedure for treasurer's reports and minutes approval.
- Appointments:
- President-elect announced appointements made by December 1: Billy Barron was appointed to serve as Programs Director, Barbara DeVries was appointed to serve as Promotions Director.
- The officers of the board appointed Erik Weibust to serve as Webmaster after a detailed interview.
- Jim Burke introduced Ram Dhan as a candidate for Education Director. Jim also gave an overview of past practices in the JavaMUG training programs. Jim was recognized for his outstanding contribution in the area of Java education. His seminars draw over 200 people and brought up to $3.000,00 solid cash to the JavaMUG account in the past. Different approaches to training programs were discussed including OO, book-centered, certification-centered. Ram was very enthusiastic about creating fast-track courses aimed at Sun certifications. He introduced Jean Johnson, the leader of the Certification Study Group in Plano, who volunteered to assist with program development. The Board appointed Ram Dhan to serve as Education Director.
- Jim Burke was appointed to serve as SIGs Liaison.
- Transition to the new Board:
- Pete asked to put on the record that he appreciated the opportunity to be a Board member. He expressed special thanks to Dan Kern-Ekins for his leadership and commitment to JavaMUG.
- David Dietz extended an invitation to all present to attend Board meetings in 2003. He moved to keep the addresses of the Board 2002 members on the Board list to facilitate the input from the outgoing "veterans". Motion carried.
- David Dietz moved to prepare a survey to obtain general feedback to be used in defining the Board activites in 2003. Motion carried.
