September 8, 1999

6:30-7:00 p.m.: Voter registration and social.

Melissa Meeker and Eric Stark from ValTech provided refreshments for the members prior to the meeting.

7:10 p.m. Billy Barron calls the meeting to order.

Announcements:

Richard Harris and Jim Burke discuss and provide a demonstration of Jini.

Robert Korngiebel from Forté Software presents their product SynerJ.

Introduction:

Forté made the move to using Java when they discovered that the web enabling technologies seemed to have trouble integrating with other systems. They changed their previous core technology to run on Java standard.

Sun Microsystems acquired Forté as a wholly owned subsidiary; to date, this has been the largest acquisition that Sun has made.

Target Market:

The goal of SynerJ is to provide a unified solution. Forte Fusion: SynerJ
Guiding principles: "Create an open modular product that allows teams of developers…" SynerJ will be in production at the end of September.
Awarded "Best Product" at Internet World.

At the conclusion of the SynerJ presentation, forms to register for free trial software are collected.
