Special Meeting of JavaMUG

June 29, 1999

Damon Clinkscales calls meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Welcomes all to special JavaMUG meeting.
Informs membership of new Java Jobs List.
Next meeting will be July 14, 1999 when JavaMUG welcomes Bob Cofoid from Saucedo Enterprises who will be discussing CloudScape.
Damon introduces Peter Coad.

Peter Coad presents Java Modeling in Color with UML.

Archetypes
Mr. Coad presented the concept of assigning a color to the four archetypes used in Java modeling:
Yellow = Role; Pink = Intervals or Moments in Time; Green = Party, Place, or Thing; Blue = Description.

To further illustrate his point, he used the example of renting a video and assigned the colors accordingly.

Yellow = Role
This would be the customer, supplier or cashier.  They all play a role in renting the video.

Pink = Intervals or Moments in Time
This would be the amount of time the video would be checked out for, the date & time at which the video was checked out, or the transaction of renting the video.

Green = Party, Place, Thing
This could be the customer, video tape, serial number on tape, or the store itself.

Blue = Description
The description of the object is similar to a catalog entry.  It would have the quantity of tapes rented, dimensions of the tape, genre of movie, run time of film, rating, list price, UPC symbol, and other detailed information about the object.

Mr. Coad was sure to make clear that it was not always necessary to have roles for each person involved (a yellow for every green) and it is possible to have either a green or a blue or both (party/place/thing and/or description).
