Mike Tischler in a brief address touched upon an on-going relationship
between JavaMUG and Delphi Consultants and also extended warm holiday greetings
to all present.
Announcements by President Dan Kern-Ekins
In general introduction he welcomed newcomers.
He stated JavaMUG's mission: to bring the Java brand technology
to the community
He mentioned the "dry" season on the Java job market.
As a preamble to the feature presentation, Dan spoke about open source
projects. He emphasized the importance of writing self-testing code and
quoted from Martin Fowler's Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing
Code, Addison-Wesley, Upsala,1999.
He shared information about free testing products available from JUnit
site.
The meeting participants gave feedback on testing tools.
General Business
The election's results were announced, new Board Members were introduced.
Barbara DeVries invited interested parties to contact her regarding sponsoring
JavaMUG's
meetings and responded to the question of the cost as being approximately
$300. She also invited general membership to join the Java jobs list.
Dan's commented on high level of satisfaction expressed by employers who
had recruited quality people from the ranks of JavaMUG.
Bob Byron made an announcement about the forthcoming SCJD meeting on Struts.
Jim Burke introduced Toni McCarthy and reported on the new syllabus for
the 2002 Java Fundamentals class for beginners. JavaMUG educational
programs will be also offering a class geared to the certification exam.
Webmaster, Pete Carapetyan, gave credit to Gil Hansen for the contents
and to Roberta Masciarelli for the new graphical design of the WebSite.
He welcomed evaluations of the recent changes by the membership.
David Dietz made an announcement about the next meeting of Hands_on_java
group on EJB.
Stephanie Smith made an announcement for Talk Java/Drink Java Plano.
John Bittner called for people experienced with Smart Cards.
